Post-Game Notes
– Tonight was the 115th meeting all-time between Notre Dame and Marquette. The Fighting Irish lead the series 79-36, including a 46-12 advantage at home.
– Notre Dame is 13-0 at home this season. The Irish have won 15 straight games at home.
– Notre Dame is 16-4 through its first 20 games of a season for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign. This is the fourth time in the Mike Brey era that the Irish have won at least 16 times through their first 20 contests. Notre Dame also was 16-4 in 2006-07. The Irish opened the 2002-03 campaign with a 17-3 mark.
– Ben Hansbrough scored a career-high 28 points. He made a career-high 10 field goals (on 15 attempts). Hansbrough has scored 20-plus points seven times this season. That ties him with Tim Abromaitis for the team lead in 20-plus point games this season. Hansbrough has eclipsed the 20-point plateau 14 times in his career (10 times at Notre Dame).
– Ben Hansbrough dished out six assists. That marked the fourth time this season he has registered at least six assists.
– Ben Hansbrough has reached double-figures a team-high 18 times this season (out of 20 games).
– Notre Dame had five players (Hansbrough – 28, Nash – 13, Atkins – 12, Scott – 11, Martin – 10) reach double-figures in points for the second straight game. That marked the fifth time this season – and second in BIG EAST play – that the Irish had at least five double-digit scorers.
– Carleton Scott notched his team-high fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Scott has seven career double-doubles. It was his 11th double-figure scoring effort of the season.
– Freshman point guard Eric Atkins (12 points) scored in double-figures for the seventh time this season. Atkins reached double-digits during both meetings with Marquette this season. He registered a career-high 15 points against the Golden Eagles on Jan. 10.
– Senior forward Tyrone Nash (13 points) reached double-figures for the second straight game and for the 10th time overall this season.
– Senior guard Scott Martin (10 points) registered a double-digit point total for the second straight game and for the 11th time this season. Martin has scored in double-figures in eight of the past nine games.
– Tim Abromaitis has made a three-pointer in 11 straight contests, which is the longest active streak on the team. His personal-best streak is 29 straight games, which occurred last season.
– Tim Abromaitis (6 points) saw his team-best 10-game double-figure scoring streak come to an end. He also had reached double-digits in 14 straight regular-season BIG EAST games.
– Ben Hansbrough’s three-pointer just over three minutes into the contest extended Notre Dame’s streak to 394 straight games with a made three-pointer. The Fighting Irish have made at least one three pointer during every game of the Mike Brey era.
– The Fighting Irish were 28-36 from the free throw line, while Marquette was 15-17. The Irish are 15-0 this season when making more free throws than their opponents.
– Notre Dame trailed 45-36 at halftime. That marked the fifth time this season – and the first time at home – that the Irish have been down at the intermission. Notre Dame is 2-3 this season when trailing at halftime.
– Marquette’s 45 first-half points are the most points surrendered by the Irish in the first half of play this season. The previous high was 40 versus Kentucky (Dec. 8).
– Marquette shot 61.5% (16-26) from the field in the first half, yet the Irish held them to 30% (9-30) in the second half.
– Notre Dame held a 32-25 advantage in rebounds. The Irish are 15-0 this season when out-rebounding their opponent.
– Seniors Carleton Scott (F), Tyrone Nash (F), Tim Abromaitis (F), Ben Hansbrough (G), and Scott Martin (G) started tonight’s contest. It marked the 14th time this season – and the first since the Syracuse contest on Jan. 1 – that quintet has started. Notre Dame is 12-2 this season when that group of seniors comprise the starting five.
– Tyrone Nash, Tim Abromaitis and Ben Hansbrough have started all 20 games this season, while Scott Martin has 19 starts. Carleton Scott, who has 15 starts this season, returned to the starting lineup tonight for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury during the Syracuse game (Jan. 1).
– Senior forward Tyrone Nash extended his consecutive games played streak to a team-best 70 contests. Nash, Tim Abromaitis (Sr./F) and Ben Hansbrough (Sr./G) all have played in the past 55 games. Nash and Hansbrough both have started all 55 of those contests.
