Printable 2018-19 Men’s Golf Schedule
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – University of Notre Dame men’s golf head coach John Handrigan released the 2018-19 schedule on Thursday, looking to continue the growth established in year one under the program’s new leadership. The Irish will play a total of 11 tournaments over the course of the year, highlighted by the Fighting Irish Classic, Oct. 7-8, at the Warren Golf Course.
“When student-athletes come to Notre Dame they expect to play against the best athletes in the country and that’s what we’ve done with our 2018-2019 schedule,” Coach Handrigan explained. “We will compete against the best teams in the country week in and week out to prepare our team for success.”
Fall Season
For the second straight year, the Irish will kick off their season at the Badger Invitational (Sept. 9-11) in Madison, Wisconsin. Notre Dame will then stay in the Midwest for the Northern Intercollegiate (Sept. 15-16) at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois. The following week, the Irish head east into ACC country for the Old Town Club Collegiate (Sept. 24-25) in Winston-Salem.
The marquee of the fall lineup is the Fighting Irish Classic (Oct. 7-8), once again hosted at the Warren Golf Course. This year’s field features a very competitive line-up consisting of four teams who qualified for the NCAA Championships in Illinois, Iowa State, Michigan and North Carolina.
“The highlight of our 2018-2019 schedule is our Fighting Irish Classic,” Coach Handrigan stated. “We get one chance each year to showcase our Championship Course at The Warren and this year we have attracted a championship level field with several top teams in the Country coming to South Bend.
In addition, the individual winner will now receive an exemption into a PGA Tour Web.com event.”
Lastly, the Quail Valley Collegiate (Oct. 14-16) in Vero Beach, Florida, rounds out the fall slate.
Spring Season
The Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, California jumpstarts the spring season on Feb. 18. The Irish will then have a month off of competition to gear up for back-to-back weeks of tournament play, starting with The Schenkel (March 15-17) in Statesboro, Georgia, then the Tar Heel Intercollegiate (March 23-24) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
In final preparations for the ACC Championships, the Irish will compete in the Augusta Invitational (April 6-7) at Forest Hills Golf Club, followed by the Boilmaker Invitational (April 13-14) in West Lafayette, Indiana.
The spring schedule will then come to a head at the ACC Championships (April 18-20) at the Old North State Club in New London, North Carolina. It’ll mark the 22nd time overall that the Old North State Club hosted the annual conference event.
This past April, the Irish posted the program’s best score (-19) and finish (sixth place) ever at the ACC Championships.
Looking Back to Look Ahead
In the first year at the helm, Coach Handrigan led the Irish to their lowest team stroke average (286.25) in over three decades, and improved it by three strokes from the year prior. Notre Dame placed six of the lowest 54-hole tournament scores on the program’s all-time top-10 list, including tying the all-time mark of 22-under par – set at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate.
Notre Dame won the 2017 Fighting Irish Classic with a score of 18-under par. In addition, the Irish shattered the team’s best ACC Championships performance by 27 strokes, finishing 19 strokes under par (845).
Lastly, Davis Lamb, Kevin Conners, Miguel Delgado, Hunter Ostrom and John Felitto all improved their season stroke average this past year under Coach Handrigan.
