DURHAM, NC. – The Irish claimed one individual title on the second day of the 2023 NCAA Championships in Durham, North Carolina at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The sabre national title was claimed by Luke Linder, and on the foil squad Chase Emmer and Marcello Olivares tied for bronze.
Linder’s individual national title is now his second, and the programs sixth national sabre title. The foil squad finished their competition placing both fencers as top four finishers, and epee finished with a top-ten finisher.

Men’s Epee
The epee squad finished in eighth and eleventh place in their first appearance at NCAA’s. Maruan Osman-Touson took eighth place with thirteen wins over the two day competition. Jonathan Hamilton-Meikle also took thirteen wins to secure eleventh place. Osman-Touson finished with a +11 indicator and Hamilton-Meikle finished with a +1 indicator.
Men’s Foil
Chase Emmer and Marcello Olivares took double bronze for the foil squad. They each made it to the semifinals but ultimately fell to their opponents. With their bronze medal wins Olivares finished with 20 wins and a +44 indicator, while Emmer finished with 19 wins and a +37 indicator.
Men’s Sabre
Luke Linder headlined the sabre squad as he claimed the national crown in an intense 15-14 final bout. He started out by taking a dominating win against his opponent from Yale 15-6 in the semifinals.
Jared Smith took ten wins on the weekend to finish in fourteenth place. He finished the weekend with a +4 indicator.

Up Next
The women will take to the strip for their turn to fence for the National Championship. They will fence the first three rounds of round-robin competition on Saturday and then move to Sunday for the final two rounds of round-robin competition. After the two rounds are completed on Sunday, the top-four finishers will advance to the semifinals starting at 1:30 p.m. ET in the afternoon.
