IRISH SET TO RESUME RIVALRY WITH HUSKIES – The top-ranked Notre Dame women’s soccer team (13-0-0, 6-0-0 BIG EAST) will play its final four regular-season games on the road, starting with the annual showdown with BIG EAST rival Connecticut (Friday, Oct. 13; 7:00 EDT) … bonus free live internet audio (as part of All Access) will be provided on und.com for both games this weekend (also at Providence, on Sunday at 1:00) … the ND-PC game will be telecast in the Providence area by Cox Cable, on a delayed basis later on Sunday (5:00 p.m. EDT) … due to the TV broadcast, updated ND gamenotes will be provided for Sunday’s game … since losing the 2004 BIG EAST title game at UConn (1-2) – ND’s only loss of that national-title season – the Irish have posted three straight shutouts vs. the Huskies (2-0, 4-0, 5-0) … ND is 77-2-0 in its past 79 games when scoring first, but one of those losses came in the 2004 BIG EAST title game vs. UConn … UConn (7-7-1, 4-3-0) is second in the BIG EAST’s American Division (West Virginia is 5-1-1) while ND leads the National Division, followed by Villanova (5-0-2), Rutgers (5-1-1), Louisville (5-2-0) and Seton Hall (2-3-2) … Friday’s game provides possibly the biggest disparity in victory total heading into the game (13 for ND, 7 for UConn) during the 12-year history of the series … the Irish own a 45-3 season scoring edge and have allowed just 26 shots on goal (2.0/gm, ND record pace) … freshman Michele Weissenhofer (9G-13A) and sophomore Kerri Hanks (11G-6A) have emerged as the nation’s top scoring duo (they rank 3rd and 5th, respectively, among the national points list; Weissenhofer 1st in assists, Hanks 4th in goals) … the Irish drew nearly 12,000 fans over the span of four games during the past two weekends at Alumni Field … Notre Dame ranks third nationally in 2006 average home attendance (2,350), behind perennial attendance leader Texas A&M (3,828) – which will serve as the host site for the 2007 College Cup final weekend – and defending NCAA champion Portland (3,612).
